My name is Anjali Yedavalli, and I am a representation-in-media enthusiast, lover of film and television, and artist. I have also been a finalist at a public speaking competition in which my speech was on the subject of representation in media. As a young consumer of media, it's easy to spot how little diversity there can be in the stories that are told. Some people may grow up not seeing a Disney Princess that looks quite like them, a superhero with their skin tone, or a cool teenage protagonist of their culture. This has sparked a passion for research within me, encouraging me to find out in what circumstances and why representation on the screen is lacking, how we have improved upon it over the years, and where we can go from here.
